Five Important Ways to Stay Organized While You Travel
Travel can be a daunting experience. Not having easy access to your belongings and neighbourhood would make anyone nervous. Also, travel can place you in situations that you would not normally face at home. Staying organized while you travel can be the difference between an amazing trip and a disaster.
Here a few important ways that you can stay comfortable and safe when travelling.
Packing List
Creating a packing list is an excellent way to prepare for your trip and make sure that you have all the items that you need. There is an already made list (pictured below) here that has a wide variety of items. A good item to bring, that is not on this list, is a key organizer. If you are travelling for longer periods or for business, having the organizer will help you keep any additional keys for an apartment, house, or office readily accessible. You can also create your packing list with the categories of clothes, toiletries, technology, and miscellaneous items as these are the most common categories on a packing list.
Create an Itinerary/Calendar
Vacations and business trips generally go a lot smoother if there is a plan. If you are planning your itinerary during your trip, you will have less time to accomplish your goals during your trip. If you are visiting as a tourist, you should research what you want to see before starting your trip. Every detail does not have to be planned, but knowing in general where you want to go will save you some time. Microsoft offers a variety of free itinerary templates here. There are also apps available where you can plan your itinerary on your mobile phone. Many of the apps can connect to map programs, so you can have your routes available to you as soon as you arrive. Printing out a copy of an itinerary to make sure that you always have a copy is a good idea.
Organize Your Technology
Missing a power cord or HDMI cable can cause a lot of inconveniences on a trip. Spending part of your day trying to find a technology item is not how you want to be spending a business trip or a vacation. There are organizers created specifically for technology items that will allow you to keep track of all headphones, chargers, backup storage and other accessories. There are particular pockets for certain items, which means it will be easier to check that you have all your technology items.
Unpack Immediately
When you reach your destination, you should unpack all of your items so that you know where everything is. Also, by moving items out of your bags, you will feel more comfortable at your destination, and you will be less likely to lose any items by quickly putting them away. Also, you should place valuable items in a safe if possible to reduce the chance of having any items stolen.
Have A Well-Organized Satchel, Wallet, or Money Belt
Throwing money or your passport around in unfamiliar places is dangerous. A wallet that has your money and credit cards easily accessible is necessary at busy travel destinations. A satchel to carry your passport is also a good idea as passports are targeted by pickpockets in the same manner as cash. Many satchels and wallets have pockets for boarding passes as well to make the process of boarding airplanes easier.
Overall, following the five tips to stay organized in this article will make your travel easier and more pleasant. Even though many of the ways to stay organized in this article may take time, preventing a disaster is worth the extra time.
